There were times when the Himalayas were flooded by the seas.  Therefore, Corals were common in these now very high places.  Few mountains over there keep remains of this precious and rare Corals, which are now collected and presented as Beads or jewels.

It is also one of the Buddha's 7 treasure of exorcism.
